It comes in threes...

For those unaware, I am now waiting on three, yes '3', different operations!

1.  Lapbad port revision

I discovered in January 2020 that my port has done a 180 degree flip.  This means that they are unable to get the syringe in to draw any fluid out, or put any fluid in.  I got called in to have the operation done only a few weeks after the mastectomy, but for obvious reasons said no!

2.  Additional Breast Surgery

More tissue transfer to get the breast size even, and provide fullness.  As well as fix and smooth out the scarring.

3.  Hysterectomy

This has been recommended by both the team at the familial cancer centre, and the gynecologist due to previous abnormal checks, high risk and various issues.  Paperwork has been submitted and I am on the 90 day waiting list as Category 2.

Waiting isn't so bad...

In saying that though, due to Covid-19 putting a hold on elective surgeries, when they will happen is anyones guess.

As much as I'd love to get them all over and done with, this waiting period is allowing me the opportunity to focus on getting in tip top shape and becoming 'op-ready'.

Confession Time...

Unfortunately, during my recovery time, the sedentary lifestyle has seen me put on a whole 8 kilos eeekkk, and I have reached a point where I am ultra uncomfortable in my own skin.  I am thankful that I realised my downward spiral before I entered triple figures...just!

My Goal...

-  To be op-ready; mentally and physically strong, healthy, and lighter!

My plan...

- Move more by walking (aim of 10,000 steps per day) and doing physiotherapy exercises.  Not only will this improve physical stamina and strength, I am hoping that coupled with the next goal it will see the scales and tape measurement numbers go down.

- Be more mindful of my unhealthy food choices, and make small gradual changes to improve nutrition.  e.g. drink more water, reduce sugar in cuppas, cut back on crappy carbs!

- Keep my mental health strong by attending psychology appointments, and keeping it real!

-  Most importantly, I will listen to my body, and not get down on myself if I don't reach my steps, or am too sore to do my physio session.

My thoughts...

I am pissed off at myself, and totally embarrassed to be here in this place again!  But, I will forgive myself, and I will show myself love by working hard to reach a place where I will stand tall with pride.  I've done it before so I know it can be done, even with the restrictions that I face.

When I get there, I will share my before photo, so be sure to stay tuned!

July 2020

Okay, so here we are month 7 of 12...bring it on!

Wednesday 1st

I was supposed to go for my pelvic scan today.  I was also meant to accompany Mum to her cancer check up (which was a-okay, back again in 1 year).  Very convienient they were at same place on same day!  But alas, I am instead in bed feeling like crappola!

Thursday 2nd

If you read the June post, you would already know what happened today.

But for those that didn't, firstly here's a raspberry!

Secondly... Great news, the Covid-19 test results were NEGATIVE!

But on the not so great side, I'm still coughing up my lungs and struggling to breathe, despite preventers and regular ventolin.

It's got me thinking you know, imagine if I was still smoking!!!  How the heck did I used to do it?!?

And on that note, I am now 7 months smoke free.  Do I still feel like one, you betcha!  But, I won't, because I'm strong enough to withhold, and besides they stink LOL.

My quit buddy stats for today!

Monday 6th

Feeling a bit better so I finally managed to get my pelvic scan done in Ballarat hospital today.  Can't say it was a pleasurable experience.

Holding onto a litre of pee for a bumpy 45 minute drive was hard enough LOL.

Monday 13th

Had Gyno appointment via telehealth today.  Bottom line, he agrees with the recommendation from my oncologist (Prof. Bruce Mann) at the Familial Cancer Centre to remove my ovaries and tubes.  I have a face to face appointment on 5th August to fill in paperwork and get the ball rolling.  When in there we'll discuss the cervical follow up stuff too.

Term 3 started today (for regional kids only)!  I however, have decided to keep the boys home.  I just don't trust what is happening with Covid-19 at the moment - especially considering we are all classed as high risk.  It just doesn't make sense to me that metropolitan areas are in lock down and yet, metro people can attend/teach at our regional school.  I mean, no offence to them, but my Mum (a metro) can't visit for at all, but the students/teachers can be around my boys for 6+ hours a day...go figure right!?!

Tuesday 14th

My fur babies had their boy bits snipped today.  They did really well, although have been acting a bit cray cray since returning home - nutters!

On the way to the vets, curious kitties.

Back home again!  I think we either need a bigger carrier, or a second one.  Mindyou, they love snuggling close together.

Wednesday 15th

Today we were up and on the road bright and early, to make it into the RMH ready for an 8.40am appointment.

It may have been just a little bit chilly, and foggy too; a beautiful masterpiece of orange haze.

Have to admit that we were nervous about going into the RMH, but saftey proceedures were in place which allowed us to feel a  smidge more relaxed.

I saw Satomi this time (female surgeon).  The lump in my leg was again drained with a huge ass needle, although it was a completely different experience to the last.  No lollypop, and leg held by doctor while nurse drained the leg.  Talk about gentle!

The lump in foob is necrotic fatty tissue.  Have to say it is a major head f%@& to find a lump after removing breasts because of lumps eeekkk!  I should say, find another lump; this one is at the side near my arm pit and I found it because of the deep shooting pain that goes through it.

Talking about pain, the nerve pain I'm experiencing in my foobs is called Post Mastectomy Pain Syndrome.  Ofwhich, I am already pretty much doing all I can for it, but if it gets too unbearable I can be referred to a specialist.

For most part every thing looks great and recovery is going really well given the bigger picture!

I have to say, it was nice being asked how I am doing, and feeling as though I was really heard.

The Covid-19 check point at the Bacchus Marsh exit.  Quite a few cars were pulled over however, we were the lucky ones who were waved through.  I did tell you that Melbourne is in lock down stage 3 yeah?  Regional is not, hence the check point to make sure only locals come into town - other than those who have medical reasons, or work commitments.

Thursday 16th

I had a psychology session today.  Something that is really synchronistic, is she summed everything up for me in one word...resillience!  I told her all about my blog and how I had chosen that as my word for myself also, she was as 'blown away' as I.

I worked through 9 modules on helping health anxiety before the session, and there were a couple of key points I took from each, but nothing earth shattering.  Anyway, I have one session of my six bulk billed left; we have scheduled it for three months time.  Maybe I will have something to talk about and need help with, maybe I won't.

Friday 17th

I had physio today, but due to feeling like crappola (TTOTM) it was more like a debrief.  Nothing added, or eliminated from my exercise prescription, but a slight modification made.  Which reminds me, I will blog about my physio exercises one of these days, if for no other teason than to document it.  I should have remembered to do before and after videos...oh well, still lots of improvement to be made.

Monday 27th

As we are regional the department will not approve the school assisting with remote learning (some teachers did and for that I am thankful).  Also the boys need to achieve a certain attendance percentage to pass.  So, basically my hand has been forced to send the boys back to school today!  Not happy, but I don't think it will be for long...stage 3 or 4 coming our way I feel, I hope!

Have to say I did have several sleepless nights grappling with whether it was actually best to just send them back to school, or not!  But I decided to focus on the pros, such as: they get a proper education, and get to participate in the hands-on subjects they like and have been looking forward to doing.  They will pass the year they are in and won't have a fail looming overhead, due to not achieving attendance percentage, and completing assessment tasks.  My guilt of not being able to adequately homeschool will be reduced.

I will be honest, I'm still not 100% at ease with my decision, but I've decided to take it day by day.  In all honesty, Moorabool cases are low, so my cons are more fear based but real all the same.

Tuesday 28th

The boys had the day off to do course counselling interviews today to pick their subjects for 2021.  With all this covid-19 stuff it is so hard to visualise anything other than what we are experiencing in the now.  Regardless of this, we plan ahead.  Ace has decided to take the vcal route and do a certificate II in Building and Construction.  Jazz surprised me by saying he wishes to become a mechanic.

As long as both live with good moral standards, I don't mind what they choose to do as long as they are happy.

Wednesday 29th

I had a telehealth appointment with the RMH plastics team this morning.  Seems that on top of the surgery Dean has booked me in for, Satomi wants another tissue transfer op.  Hmmm I'm a little confused.  Not like its going to happen in a hurry though, as Covid-19 has put a hold on elective surgery here in Vic, unless emergency (life or death) category 1.  It's a little disappointing, but the positive is I get to fully recover and hopefully drop the recovery kgs I've gained from being a sloth!

Besides that, with everything going on at the moment its scary enough going to hospital for an appointment, let alone being in there for a couple of days.

Friday 31st

And just like that another month is behind us.  I've not really expressed my 'feelings' much in this post, but believe me I've experienced all the 'feels'.  I've blogged about some of them, but to be real with you I am a little hesitant to post.  Mind you, the whole point of this blog is to keep it real; to be raw and unscripted...so maybe I will be brave.  Maybe!

I'm a healthy Mummy...

Okay, so I know that I KNOW what to do both food and exercise wise, but I just need it to be something I don't have to overthink and so I joined up to give THE HEALTHY MUMMY program a try.

I decided to give it a go mostly because the recipes shared on their facebook page looked like stuff the kids would actually like, and as I don't want to be doing something for them and something for us, I thought its a good way to do it together.

On Sunday night I worked out the meal plan for the week, got shopping ordered ready for pick up in the morning and psyched myself up ready for a kick arse week...remembering that in a previous blog I said that I am content where I am and mostly only doing this to lose weight so I can have the prophylactic masectomy operation and be able to bounce back quickly!

Day 1 - Week 1 started on Monday the 4th of Feb...

I got the weigh in, measurements and fitness test done and dusted first thing that morning!

As I didn't start work until 11.00am, we also got time to do our first workout video.

Again...I know that I KNOW what to do training wise, afterall I did do my PT qualifications and have done plenty of sessions with awesome trainers in the past BUT I don't want to have to overthink it...okay, I don't want to become obsessed with it and there is a very fine line that I could easily cross that I don't want to cross!

Day 1 went off awesomely and I managed to get in and keep down most of the food for the day!

Day 2...Tuesday 5th Feb

As it was my day off, and as such my sleep in day, we didn't have breakfast until almost lunch time which meant I didn't get in any snacks, AND I chucked most of lunch.  Dinner was delish though although Ace wasn't too much of a fan (hmmm, Mr. Fussy strikes again, he did enjoy the salad though - ofcourse he did MANGO)!

Exercise wise since linedancing hadn't (still hasn't) started back we went on a family bike ride.

I did have all intentions of heading down to do the Avenue track, but considering it was my first bike ride in a very long time (so happy my cycling gear still fits albeit a little snug), Mark and I worked out in the morning (did the same video as the day before because silly me made a booboo) plus danced around like idiots for a little while (hahaha we have joined the zftuesday bandwagon) AND I needed to be able to move the next day so I can work (not a good look when the massager can't move without winching)...I figured it was best to ease into it!

Apart from the boys cutting me off a few times (helllloooo trying to stay on here), it was really enjoyable and I didn't fall off or get off to walk once - WINNING!

Day 3...Wednesday 6th Feb

Food was good...dinner didn't stay down though AND I made a booboo on the amount of noddles eeekkk, Ace thought it was good so thats a bonus!

Decided to do something a little different on the exercise front and just dance around like idiots to some Fitness Marshall Clips on YouTube...omg so freaking funny, but it helped with my cranky "technology sucks" mood - kids and their freaking xbox dramas OMG!

Day 4...Thursday 7th Feb

Struggled with the food today and only kept down 3 meat, rice and veggie balls.

Exercise wise, the boys escorted me (Mr. Grandpa Ace, didn't like the idea of me riding on my own...sooo sweet) to Aqua on our bikes.  Bloody hell!  Their short cut IS NOT SHORT LOL!  Also, it was the toughest but also the best session of Aqua yet!  It was like a normal PT session just in the water; shuttle runs, weights, walking lunges...it got my heart rate up and I loved it!  Then, the boys picked me up and we rode home.  Eeekkk that bridge is a bit sketch to ride over, but I did it!

Day 5...Friday 8th Feb

Started the day with a bloody horrible green smoothie eeeewww!

Was going to exercise in the evening but didn't, instead we dropped the boys at their Dads then climbed into bed and watched a movie...yes, with microwave popcorn - No guilt though, I'm still gonna splurge here and there BUT for the most part I want to be ontrack towards getting 'op ready'.

Progression NOT Perfection!

Day 6...Saturday 9th Feb

Food today was very little, I even spewed the pizza!

Exercise wise was more about movement, and boy did I move!  I cleaned my pantry and then the entire kitchen and then took stuff out to the shed for the upcoming (been upcoming for over a year) garage sale!

I also worked out the menu for Week 2 and ordered the shopping ready to collect tomorrow!

Day 7...Sunday 10th Feb

Today was a better food day than yesterday.

Whilst I again didn't do any proper movement, I did go the psychic expo (I spoilt myself with crystals) with a good friend and walked about the market AND up and down the steps to get in LOL...okay, so clutching at straws there *giggle worthy though*

I also did a little food prep, which was good.

Oh and did I mention that I've been drinking 2 litres of water (sometimes more) a day!  That for me is huge...and a big goal of mine!  Oh did I also mention that I've been getting up umteen times during the night to pee...that part really does pee me off a bit LOL!

Oh another thing, I've been meeting curfew of 11pm for bed (so not tonight as I'm typing this, but every other one)!

Anywho...that is week 1 done and dusted, I've signed up for 4 weeks as a starter and will see how we go.  Slow and steady will win this race...I've got a whole year and a bit to get there, and I WILL get there, I just refuse to cross that fine line!

March 2018...

GUESS WHAT!!  We are getting MARRIED!!

If life has shown us anything the past month its that life is too short to put off that which makes you happy AND so with that we set a date! We are getting married on Saturday 21st of April.

Nearly everything is organized, it helps that it is going to be very laid back - nothing OTT!

I cannot wait until we make our love official, so bloody exciting!

MAR 4th - Sunday is Food Prep Day!

For lunches this week the boys have pizza scrolls and salted caramel brownies and the big kids (aka moi and Mark) have a mixed veg fritatta with feta.

The scrolls are the easiest thing to make albeit the messiest: 1 cup SR flour & 1 cup Greek yogurt. Mix into a dough, roll out flat, add toppings, roll, cut into 2cm rounds and bake until golden. These ones have tomato paste, salami, semi dried tomatoes, pineapple and cheese.

MAR 5th - Study Break is Over!

And so it begins...year 2 of uni!  I am only taking on two subjects this semester; Herbal Preparation and Sociology of Food and Nutrition.  It should be an interesting, informative and perhaps a little stressful 16 weeks ahead - Let the studying begin!  Oh how one day I wish to be able to live in a "cancer free world"!

MAR 6th

I am now spending my Tuesdays with my Sister, helping with the kids and general stuff around the house.  One of the things I get the honour of doing, is taking my nephew to his swimming lessons - its such a great bonding time for us.  If only it didn't take the "C word" for this time spent together to happen...oh well, main thing is that it is, can't think about the past just live in the moment of now!

How freaking adorable is this photo OMG!

MAR 10th

Yep I'm counting down and looking forward...I am so excited!

MAR 15th

I feel like I'm riding a bloody roller coaster at the moment, one minute I'm up and the next...

I sit tonight with the tears I have been holding back for so long streaming down my face. Theres a part of me that feels so ashamed of feeling this way when I know there are others who deserve to be shedding tears and wearing a heavy heart far more than I. But theres another part of me that says if I don't let it out, if I don't express it, it will only build up and create more dis-ease within and that goes against every piece of advice I give to others about self expression. So here I am...expressing! I have been so good at pretending to keep it together and just pushing through, but the truth is, I'm as human as f%@* and I'm hurting! I feel so lost in my own thoughts right now, lost in the haze of changes happening that I am yet to fully grasp. I don't plan to unpack and stay here and I know I have an abundance of things to be thankful for, but I just needed to share, to reach out...I may tell you I'm fine and even look like I've got my shit together, but sometimes even the toughest trees bend in the storm.

MAR 17th

5 weeks until I stand on this very beach and pledge my eternal love to my sweet man!

MAR 22nd

I have been reflecting a bit this past week...perhaps because yesterday would have been the 20 year anniversary of my first wedding! Anyway, it got me thinking about how I have changed over the years due to my experiences and how if I hadn't of gone through each of the things I have then I wouldn't be who I am today. There are some things I am certainly not proud of, I think we all have those. I don't know if I agree with the 'no regrets' bit, because in all honesty I do regret the major mistakes but, I can say that despite them...I like, actually no, I love who I am...scars and all!

MAR 24th

It is funny how normally you don't want life to go too fast, but when you are waiting on an event, you want it to hurry up LOL!  4 weeks...it will be here before we know it, besides we need that time to be able to get up the money to pay for 'stuff'!

MAR 25th

Amen to this for both men and woman! Aesthetics are just the surface layer...be you and wear it with pride whatever shape or size!

I put off setting a wedding date because I didn't want to be a "fat" bride again! Then life showed us that it is way too short to put off that which makes you happy and so we set a date regardless of not losing weight.

I won't lie, there was a part of me that thought 'Shit! I need to drop (blah blah) kilos in 8 weeks' and I noticed a shift happen...a shift that wasn't a good one! I decided then and there that I wasn't going to do it - push myself to achieve a certain size that is! I was just going to embrace me as I am, the same way my sweet man loves me and wants to marry me just as I am, and vice-a-versa.

Being healthy is one thing (both physically and psychologically) but aesthetics is another. If I have learnt nothing else from my yoyo sizes it is, that it doesn't matter what size or shape you are, if you are happy and healthy, that's when you are most beautiful!

Wanna hear a funny story?

So, when we first decided to set a date and have a wedding, we had the intention of it being a very small 'family only' intimate gathering on the beach.  This to me meant that it really didn't matter what I looked like, I could get married in my PJs and my family would think nothing of it LOL!  Given that was the case, I purchased a dress off Ebay for $30.00 which looked amazing on the 'skinny - straight up and down' model.  Anyway, it fit me and it looked okay, although Mum suggested a tummy tucker inner'er would look better and so I pulled it out the draw put it on, and she was right, it did make a difference - the fact that I felt like I couldn't breathe wouldn't matter right?

So, one afternoon, after I had a hair trial, I decided to put my dress on again just to see if it had grown on me a little more...nope it hadn't AND now we had announced it to the facebook world it meant that more people were going to see me in my dress than expected, which left me feeling a little defeated.  I don't know why I decided to sit down, but I did and with that I heard a 'rip'...yep I split the seam!  You can imagine the words that came out of my mouth and to say that I went into anxiety overload is an understatement.  But, I quickly gave myself a pep talk not to cry, and decided that it was an omen...I had to find another dress then and there - one I could actually breathe in, one I felt more like me in, one that also made me feel like a beautiful bride.  And I did just that - City Chic and Afterpay to the rescue!  OMG how awesome is afterpay!

So I know have another dress, that I absolutely adore and if anything is maybe even a little on the big side...gggrrrr for being a 1/2 size...if only they made size 15 LOL!

The dress that wasn't meant to be...

Mar 26th...NOW!

UNI Update

I would love to tell you that everything is going great, but we are now into week 4 and I am still struggling to find my study mojo (infact I should be studying rather than blogging hhhmmmm).  I am so far behind with it all and to be honest I considered dropping out of this semester.  I didn't because I know that if I do, I probably wont start back up again, and its something that I really want to do...I just need to knuckle down and do it, rather than letting the anxiety get the better of me where I feel so overwhelmed and can't focus.  Admittedly, life is a little - okay alot, difference now to only a couple of months ago...it will all fall into place soon, I just need to stop being so hard on myself.

BREAST Update

So I had the doctor feel me up and she found a few lumps, so I had a mammogram and ultra sound which confirmed the GPs findings and then they sent me off to get a biopsy.  BUT, the specialist said that they couldn't get enough cells from the lumps to be able to give a conclusive result and so now I am wanting on my Peter Mac appointment which could be up to 3 months away.  I was really freaking out at one stage, but I have decided that there is no point worrying about it, until I get to my appointment, do more tests plus the genetic testing, counselling etc...etc...

So while I wait for my appointment, I focus on my family that needs me.  It also gives me time to gather as much information as I can, before I go ahead and make any major life changing decisions, like getting my boobs chopped off - which may be a high probability.  Anyway enough about that or else my head will become a muddled mess again.

Oh I also have another specialist appointment in early May to do with the rear end...just a general check as things haven't quite been right and there is also a history of bowel cancer in the family...it's all a bit shitty really, hahaha pun intended!

HOW AM I?

I know that over the past few years alot has changed in my life that made me somewhat (okay alot) self absorbed and as a result I was ultra shit at staying intouch, and so I truly appreciate those friends who have reached out and taken the time to check in and ask how I am.  This past month I have come to realise how important friendships are to me, I may not have a massive list, in fact my circle is quite small but I cherish you all.

In answer to the above question...I'm in a really odd place!

Part of me is over the moon at the fact that in 3 weeks and 5 days, I am going to be getting married to a man that makes me feel like I am the most precious and loved woman on the planet.  A man who I love with every inch of my being and am so happy in his presence.

And yet, there is another part that just can't get her shit together and feels like she is falling apart at the seams...lost and lonely.  I don't like feeling this way!  I can usually pull myself out of this dark place and get back to being my usual positive happy go lucky self really quickly, but at the moment, I just don't have the energy!

I'm Okay though OR so I keep on saying!

Maybe its just that its almost April and well, its not exactly been a good month for me since my Dad died and to add salt to that wound, losing my precious fur baby last year.  I was hoping that by setting the wedding date in April that it would help to lift the mood of things a little, and it has somewhat, but it has also made me wish my Dad was here even more.  Life is just so fucking unfair sometimes!

GGGRRRR I'm getting angry at myself because I have so much to be thankful for in my life and yet I'm a sad sack!  FFS pull yourself together woman!  Ok time to TRY and get some sleep...tomorrow I am going to call my counsellor - this is crazy, this is not me *SIGH*.

2015 Health and Fitness Recap

January 2015

I took a month off everything to just spend time with my family and to gather my thoughts!

February 2015

....one word FEBFAST

I'm running again, lovin' it and making awesome progress despite my calves working against me.

There was a time that I didn't enjoy the actual running itself but loved the feeling of exhilaration afterwards.....now however, despite fighting with the demons telling me to stop, I actually enjoy every aspect of it. The burning of my lungs, the heaviness of my legs, the running away from life.

March 2015

Infection in the knee - FFS!! This literally came from no where.....one minute I was walking normally, the next my knee was in agony AND its the left one not the bung one - like seriously what the actual F*#&!!!!

I am feeling lost in the haze of pain killers which somewhat actually sums up how I've been feeling since late last year. I feel like I've been going through the motions but not fully present, wandering aimlessy through the fog trying to find the light that once shone, living on autopilot. Those that know me, know that this is not who I 'truly' am. I am a sieve the day, shoot for the stars kind of girl and so on that note I've decided that with the change of season its time to reconnect, to find that spark I once had, direction, purpose, goals.

How do I plan to do that?

By focusing on all the 'positive' aspects in my life...because after all - I am the eternal optimist!

There is always a silver lining and a lighthouse guiding our way towards it. Let the #100happydays #100healthydays posts start flowing, (follow me on INSTRAM to see them) Let the words in my blog flow freely, Let the spark I had for life be reignited.....Let me find ME!!

This is me today - lost in the haze!

So even though I am at home nursing a knee infection, dealing with a yucky tummy from the side effects of the antibiotics and struggling mentally to push through the brain fog that comes with pain killers; I am lucky enough to have a home gym and someone willing to hold the boxing mitts for me and so I am managing to do something - Boxing Tabata it is :)

April 2015

Yet another write off :( But then again April always seems to be that month of the year for me. Why oh why can I not just brush it off and keep on going rather than falling into an emotional heap *sigh*.

For my Dad....written by your loving daughter Natasha Hurst

I wonder how my life would beIf you had of still been hereThis contemplation lingersWith every passing yearI often sit just thinking
Getting lost in the daydream
Of each and every outcome
Different lives played scene by scene
Would I be this? Would I be that?
I guess I'll never know
So I just end up right back here
A life you did bestow
I have gone on living
Doing the best that I knew how
Mistakes I know I've made a few
But they've led me to this moment now
And whilst there's days it all seems too much
That I cannot possibly go on
I remember how hard you fought
And now your dreams foregone
So as I sit here watching
As your grandchildren play
A woman lost in thoughts of you
On this eve of Anzac Day
Know that I have done my best
To make you proud of me
To live life to the fullest
To be the best that I can be.

I love you Dad, its hard to believe that tomorrow will be 24 years since you left us, I miss you xox
feeling emotional.

May 2015
A few months ago not only did I fall off the wagon with a big almighty thud, but I also decided to stay down there for a while and feed the emotions of self pity. This inevitably led to weight gain which of course came with feeling uncomfortable in my own skin, being unmotivated, unproductive and unfocused, being more susceptible to illnesses and to generally feeling like a complete and utter hypocrite. After getting to the point that enough was enough I finally swallowed my pride and spoke to my trainer about how I was feeling and now have some new goals to work towards. As a trainer and as someone others look to for motivation and inspiration its really hard to admit that you failed, but I am only human and plan to work hard to prove that all it takes is the decision to get up and try again. So here I am holding myself accountable and sharing the next chapter of my journey with you all.

I started a new chapter in my journey....It matters not how many times you begin again, but that you actually do! Never give up fighting for what you want....its not easy and there will be setbacks but it will be so worth picking yourself up and dusting yourself off for. DEDICATION, DETERMINATION, PERSISTENCE!!

June 2015

So my May challenge didn't exactly run very smoothly albeit due to me getting sick (yes again!) but progress was made regardless of the fact that I failed to reach my mini goal and so now here we are in June which means reassessing and setting some new mini goals to work towards all with the challenge of life's little hurdles navigate....at least there is certainly never a dull moment.

July 2015

August 2015

So there is lots of rest, rest and oh yeah more rest on the agenda. So sick of being sick.....this rest thing is exhausting

September 2015

Daily antibiotic injections hurt like heck and do crazy things to my gut but the fact that the haze feels like its lifted even just ever so slightly makes my butt and gut being battered and bruised worth it.

Not many laps at Relay For Life this year....

October 2015

Patience is not one of my strong suits but remaining positive is and that I can and will do....through the haze there is always a glimpse of hope 💚

Because there is a shitload of stuff running around in this head and heart of mine at the moment which totally suck, rather than let those things control me I am going to focus on the things I am grateful for.

November 2015

I had contemplated not sharing any of this phase in my journey with you all due to negative feelings such as shame, disappointment, failure.....I could go on. However, its all part of what makes me ME and so I'm sharing it. I often get told that my resilience to keep on going is inspiring and that faced with the same sort of challenges that I have been faced with over the years others would of just given up and accepted their fate. This then leads to the question of how do you keep going? My answer is that I refuse to give up. Perhaps its my stubborn streak but I'm not a quitter and if I want something bad enough I'm gonna keep working on it until I get it, even if at times I forget that and end up sitting with my arms and legs crossed, hunched over, bottom lipped dropped, face frowned, shitty attitude, feeling sorry for myself for a little while until I decide I'm ready again. For the past 4 months I've been doing just that 'sulking', 'feeling defeated', 'quitting' AND that's not who I am, not the kind of role model I want for my kids and so I've made the conscious decision to embark on the next phase of my journey albeit already presented with many obstacles for me to tackle, but I will do this forgiveness, faith and with food as my focus.

As you may have guessed, the past few months have been shit for me health wise with infection and fever just not going away, tests with no real answers, one lot of antibiotics after the other, pain relief, cortisteriods, asthma medication, specialist referrals and so on blah blah blah...anyway I am over feeling like crap from whatever is going on with me and over feeling even more like crap from the medications meant to be fixing whatever it is..I'm just generally over it all both physically and mentally! AND so today (Monday 2nd November 2015), I decided it was time to use the knowledge I've aquired over the years and stop the cycle. No more napalming my system with chemicals! I'm a hippie at heart and so natural alternatives it is - herbs, a ketogenic diet, light exercise (aka walking), meditation, affirmations and a lot of love, support and prayer in the hopes that this will make a difference.

Yes there are obstacles, Yes they right royally suck, but NO I will not let them defeat me. I WILL FIGHT!

First step - forgiveness and cutting myself some slack by acknowledging that sometimes 'shit' happens but it doesn't mean the future is set in stone.

Second step - deciding to start the nutrition plan I have been researching and focus instead on using food as medicine.

Third Step - Accepting that if my doctor and specialists say I need to start back on the medication I will BUT I will be prepared in advance for the side effects by ensuring on the days I feel capable of doing so I will pre-prep my meals.

Fourth Step - Going for a walk, sitting on the exercise bike or doing yoga on the days I feel I can and accepting that on the days I need to rest that its OK and I won't beat myself up about it.

Step Five - Promising that I will take one step, one brick, one day at a time and not think I'm superwoman and over do it and end up on a downward spiral.

OK well that plan didn't work! Not even at the end of November and I am feeling incredibly disappointed at the moment as I have had to give in and go back on antibiotics which is incredibly frustrating as I still don't have any real answers and the specialist that I am holding out to see isn't until early December and thats still weeks away *sigh*. Oh well....even the bravest of Lion's needed help to get the thorn out of its paw so I can admit defeat and pop a few more pills. The plan to do this un-medicated didn't work, but I will keep on persisting medicated, even though it feels somewhat like swimming against the tide.:/

December 2015 ( Happy Birthday to ME and Merry Christmas to ALL)

I've seen the specialist and have some answers. In short the lump that was found in my throat is benign (phew). Its an overactive lymph node due to my immune system not functioning the way that it should and it gets bigger each time I get sick - which as you know from reading this blog is quite often. I am now on the long waiting list to have my tonsils removed (very scary stuff) and hopefully that will mean my immune system will kick in and start doing what its supposed to.

Unfortunately in the meantime I have had to give up training :( It seems ridiculous to me to think that something I was doing in order to improve my health was having the adverse effect and actually contributing towards me getting sick...something about depleting the stores I had to fight with blah blah blah. What am I going to do with no training? How am I going to keep this weight maintained? Holy shit its just all too much to deal with at the moment.

Yes I know this quote is true, but before I start the demolition process I am going to have my little 'FML' moment because telling me I have to wait at least a year for something that will make a huge difference in my life AND that in the meantime I'm told to 'just keep on doing what you're doing' really really shits me - patience is not my strongest attribute *sigh* Luckily though, determination, persistence and sheer stubbornness are and so it's thinking cap time......how can I kick the shit out of these obstacles? I'm all good for the most part just incredibly frustrated but I'll get over it or under it or through it. The life and times of Tash aren't always rainbows and butterflies sometimes there is a huge bucket of 💩. Right now as you can see it's in the form of my attitude.

A Poem by Natasha Hurst

Life can change in the blink of an eye
With each fleeting moment a chance passes by
Or perhaps its seized and captured as yours
Embraced for all it is both beauty and flaws
We take the good with the bad and the bad with the good
Sometimes we cant change it or dont if we could
For it all adds up to be who we are
All tiny grains of sand in an hour glass jar
I really don't know what I'm try to say
Except embrace life and what it offers each day
Be thankful to those who are present and gone
And draw from the strength of each lesson learnt to carry on.

And that is a wrap for yet another year. Thanks heaps for following my journey. I wish you a wonderful 2016.
